Take a look at the queries below. If any of them is applicable to you, we can help solve the problem.
- Do you lack confidence with the look of your teeth and smile?
- Do you prefer to avoid smiling or try to cover your mouth when talking to people?
- When having your picture taken, do you normally smile with your lips closed?
- Do you have a ‘gummy’ smile – gums that are too thick and make teeth appear small?
- Do you have teeth that are uneven, twisted or discoloured?
- Do you have gaps you dislike between any of your teeth?
Principles Of Smile Design
There are many aspects, contours and angles considered when designing your smile. We critically analyse the design of your smile to give you an outstanding result.
What are the principles? Here are just some of the most important principles we use at Fresh Dental Smile Clinic to help design your smile.
Horizontal Symmetry: Draw an imaginary horizontal line through the centre of both your pupils and another horizontal line between the tips of your canine teeth. Preferably, these two horizontal lines should be parallel. Often, one side slopes down.
Vertical Symmetry: Draw an imaginary vertical line through the centre of your face. This mid-line should run through the centre of your eyes, nose and chin. Preferably, the mid-line should also run through your two central incisors thus making the central incisors a mirror image of each other.
Smile Width: Preferably, a wide smile will display your first molar to the first molar tooth, although if you have a narrow smile you may only see the front six teeth from canine to canine.
Smile Line: Draw an imaginary curve along the bottom of your upper teeth and compare it to an imaginary curve of your lower lip. Preferably, your smile should be curved to appear younger.
Gum Line: Draw an imaginary curve along the top of your upper teeth. Preferably, only the pink triangular parts of gum between the teeth should show. Nevertheless, some people show a lot more gum or the gum that shows is irregular giving an uneven gum line.
Numerous patients have found their treatment to be a life-changing experience, boosting their self-confidence and self-esteem.

Frequently Asked Questions
Am I a suitable candidate for cosmetic dentistry?
Often, patients who have missing, cracked, crooked or discoloured teeth can benefit from cosmetic dentistry procedures. It’s the go-to treatment choice for those who feel self-conscious about smiling, talking or laughing, too.
If you’re debating whether cosmetic dentistry is the right solution for you, the best thing to do is make an appointment with our cosmetic dentist in York. This will enable us to examine your gums and teeth before discussing your dental flaws and imperfections in detail.
Once we know a little more about your medical history and what you’re trying to achieve, we can then figure out which treatment is best for your smile.

Teeth whitening is one of the fastest cosmetic dentistry procedures you’ll come across – taking our cosmetic dentist in York little more than an hour to complete at our smile clinic.
Dental bonding and tooth contouring, on the other hand, can take up to one hour per tooth, whilst orthodontic treatments and full mouth restorations can take 6 to 24 months.
Our dental professionals can advise you which procedures will give you the results you’re looking for in the timeframe you need – so, why not contact us today?
