Say Goodbye to Wrinkles with Botox and Dermal Fillers

At Fresh Dental Smile Clinic, we don’t just give you a winning smile. With Botox and dermal fillers, we can also give you smooth skin and a more youthful appearance.

Getting older is inevitable, but that doesn’t mean you should sit back and let the effects of ageing show on your skin. Botox and filler treatment is entirely safe, virtually painless and the results can appear in as little as seven days. But many people have reservations about Botox or dermal fillers as they don’t know the difference, or what each involves. Here’s everything you need to know.

What Is Botox?

Botox, short for Botulinum toxin, is a protein locally injected into areas of the face with a fine needle. It works by temporarily relaxing the muscle tissue that causes wrinkles. This is usually in the forehead creases, crow’s feet (at the side of the eyes), upper lip or necklines, where the collagen (which holds the body together) in the face has weakened. However, Botox isn’t only used to give your skin a smoother appearance; it’s also used to treat excessive sweating. The aim of Botox is to smooth the appearance of the skin in a way that looks natural. While results will vary for individuals, you can expect your treatment to last for between three to six months.

Is Botox Safe?

Botox is the result of decades of studies and it’s a certified, extensively used product in the medical and cosmetic field. The worst a patient can expect after having Botox is slight swelling and bruising, as you might get with any needle. You can even resume life as normal following the procedure, including flying, as there are no long-term side-effects of this wrinkle-reducing treatment.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are different to Botox in that rather than relaxing the muscles, they inject volume to smooth out wrinkles. As we age, our skin becomes drier, thinner and less able to support itself. In addition, daily stresses and how much we use the muscles in our face (we’ve all heard how it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile!) causes wrinkles to develop. By adding volume, fillers can give a fresher and more youthful look.

Fillers involve injecting Hyaluronic Acid (HA) into the skin with a small needle. The results of dermal filler treatment can be seen within days, is fast and involves minimal discomfort. It can also be used in multiple areas of the face, including deep depressions or in the lips to add volume. Dermal fillers typically last much longer than Botox, and patients can expect to notice the effects for well up to a year after the initial treatment.

Are Dermal Fillers Safe?

Dermal fillers involve injecting a substance found in the body. While we are born with a plentiful amount of HA, our natural store of it depletes with age. With dermal fillers, you are not injecting a foreign substance into your body, making it much safer than previous wrinkle treatments. We use Hydrafill amongst other products, which is made entirely of natural ingredients and is one of the most popular of its kind. The grade of filler used in your skin will depend on the severity of your wrinkles. A lower grade can be used for fine laughter lines and smoker lines. The maximum grade can be used for deep wrinkles, jaw lines and to increase lip volume.
